St Patrick's Bridge - October 28 1922

Daniel Griffin was a 29 year old from Roche's Buildings on the north side of Cork city. On the evening of October 28th 1922 he left his work and began his usual walk home but, he never did make it there.

Daniel was accompanied by a few of his fellow Ford workers as they were making their way home but, just as they reached Patrick's Bridge they encountered a Free State checkpoint which was under fire by a group of Anti-Treaty IRA men.

During the gun fight bullets whizzed all around Patrick's Bridge and one went through the coat of Daniel's work friend and unfortunately hit Daniel, killing him.
